Who Is Sowore?

Omoyele Sowore was born on February 16, 1971 in a suburban town in Ondo State, in the south western region of Nigeria. His passion and relentless fight to improve the lives of the citizens of our great country has taken him to every corner of Nigeria, where he has seen and knows, first-hand, the struggles and challenges that millions of our brothers and sisters contend with on a daily basis.

Sowore has been a pivotal part of Nigeria’s political and democratic process for approximately 30 years, and continues to advocate for justice, equality, security, democracy, accountability, and economic empowerment on the local, national, and international stage. Omoyele Sowore came to national prominence when he led a nationwide protest against the menace of secret cults on campuses around the country in 1992. As a national Students’ Union Leader and advocate, his courage, passion, and skills of engaging Nigerians and building consensus grew into a formidable national political consciousness and prominence in 1993, when Sowore, along with notable national heroes and champions of the masses (such as the Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Late Chima Ubani, Late Dr. Bala Usman, Late Beko Ransome Kuti and Mr. Femi Falana, among others), engaged in spirited protests to restore democracy in our beloved country. These relentless and painstaking struggles led to the restoration of democracy in 1999.

The way to oust bad government, is to exercise your right to vote; and that we’ll do – with our PVCs!

To safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and ensure public accountability, Sowore founded Sahara Reporters, a globally acclaimed and economically successful news platform through which he continues to advocate for the rights of all Nigerians, without regard to religious, ethnic, economic, or political affiliations. Today, Sahara Reporters is the most authoritative source of news for the Nigerian political scenery, helping to champion the fight against individuals, groups, sects, cabals, and special interests that threaten Nigeria’s democracy. Sahara Reporters continues to give voice to the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians and Africans who strive for a better future, and its impacts continue to reach far, helping influence change in Nigeria and several other African countries, including Zimbabwe and the Gambia.

Sowore holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Lagos, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in the United States. In addition to his duties as a entrepreneur, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Reporters, Sowore is a lecturer and highly knowledgeable public Speaker who never misses the opportunity to advocate for Nigerians and Africans on all platforms around the world. He is happily married, with children.

To salvage Nigeria’s future and reverse decades of inept and visionless leadership and governance, Omoyele Sowore is taking his vision and relentless advocacy on behalf of Nigeria and Nigerians all over the world to the halls of power. He has convened the ‘Take It Back’ Movement, a People-powered, People-oriented, and People-owned broad coalition of Nigerians from all regions, ethnicity, religious and economic groups, to help effect change and set our beloved country Nigeria on the right path into the future and beyond – to collectively fashion a vibrant, functioning and viable country Nigerians can proudly call their own again.

Omoyele Sowore – the visionary, relentless and uncompromised People’s Advocate – invites you to join him and other Nigerians who believe strongly in the ability of all Nigerians who are rising up across the country and everywhere in the world to Reclaim their beloved Nigeria from the stranglehold of failed Leadership, with the goals of Reviving and Rebuilding it to assume its rightful place, not just as the Giant of Africa, but also as a respected and influential Nation among the comity of developed and functioning Nations globally.

Thank you.
