INEC To Resume Continuous Voter’s Registration Exercise Ahead of 2023 Elections (See Date & Details)

 

This is no doubt a news of joy to many, as it is that most citizens already got their Permanent voters cards (PVCs) damaged, most people lamented the on blame  the low quality production of the PVCs and hope that this time their is a better make.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 28 to resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2023 elections

During press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, recently announced the resumption date for voters registration  

The commission earlier targeted the resumption of the exercise in the first quarter of 2021, but Mahmood said the target was not met on the basis of activities such as introduction of new secure systems to ensure the registration is in line with COVID-19 guidelines, expansion of voter access to polling units and as wellq introduction of new voter registration equipment and technology.

According to Mahmood, he said in the press conference that effective from Monday 28th of June 2021, the CVR exercise will commence nationwide and be carried out continuously for over a year until the third quarter of 2022.

However, a little more focus will be on Anambra State where more centres are to be established in view of the governorship election scheduled ahead for Saturday, 6th November 2021.

“In order to complete preparations for the governorship election, the CVR exercise in the state will be temporarily suspended in August 2021. This will enable the commission to clean up the data for the state and print the Permanent voter cards (PVCs) for citizens.

He further added that, as time goes on, the commission further provide more details on the CVR exercise, particularly the innovations that will ensure a secure, safe and stress-free experience for citizens. In doing so, we will fully consult stakeholders.

 

In conclusion and with assirance, he said; "in fact the first in the series of these consultations will take place after the Easter break.”
