'The Don Who Makes Don' –Prof. AbdulRauf Ambali
Prof. AbdulRauf Ambali holds his first degree with First Class Honours in Religious Jurisprudence (major) and Politics (minor) at International Islamic University, Malaysia (IIUM). He obtained his M.Sc. Political Science in 2002 and Ph.D. Political Science in 2005 with Distinctions (CGPA of 3.95 out 4 point scale system) from the same University respectively. Prof. Ambali holds a specialization in policy, administration and governance at both Master and Ph.D. levels of his educational qualifications.
Prof. Ambali was given a Special Recognition Award as NAQIB in 1997/98 Session Mahalat Umar Al-Khattab, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) while he was a student. He was accorded another Special Recognition Award as NAQIB by IIUM. From 2004 to 2005 and appointed as Trainer for Leadership and Management (TLM) for Student Development and Co-Curricular Activity Division, at International Islamic University, IIUM Malaysia.
To his credit, he has published over eighty-five articles in renowned journals in Elsevier, Science-Direct, Springer, Welly, Routledge, etc. Some of his textbooks adopted as course materials include Primer in Policy Analysis: Techniques and Methods; Public Policy; ICT Policy Adoption in Public Sector, Public Policy Analysis; and a number of chapters have also been contributed to local and international edited books by Prof. Ambali.
Prof. Ambali has supervised many Master and Ph.D. students both locally and internationally. Over the years, Prof. Ambali has been able to secure a number of Research Grants through his Research Teams both locally and internationally.
Prof Ambali has received various Awards of excellence locally and internationally based on his research activities and contributions to policy, administration and governance system.
Prof. Ambali has rendered his services to many international academic communities around the world. He has served in many capacities such as content editor for many conferences and proceedings and chairs of panellists for International Forums.
Prof. Ambali served and still serving as Editorial Board Member for many reputable journals such as Journal of Political Science and International Relations; Journal of Administrative Science; etc.
In terms of community out-reach; Prof. Ambali has contributed immensely both morally and financially to various individuals, associations and groups in society both at international and local levels. Prof. Ambali has served and still serving the state and federal governments with his expertise on national issues and developments.
Internationally, Prof. Ambali is a registered member of Association of Political Science, United State of America; a registered member of Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM), USA; a Permanent Member of Malaysian Social Science Association (PMSSM); a member of Association of Malaysian Environment-Behaviour Researchers (AMER) and Association of Behavioural Researchers in Asians (ABRA).
Locally, Prof. Ambali is a registered member of Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA); Fellow, Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria (CILPANG); Fellow, Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy of Nigeria.(CIPDM)
Prof Ambali was given a Special Recognition Award as NAQIB in 1997/98 Session Mahalat Umar Al-Khattab, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) while he was a student. He was appointed from 2004 to 2005 as Trainer for Leadership and Management (TLM) for Student Development and Co-Curricular Activity Division at International Islamic University, IIUM Malaysia. In recognition of his intellectual contributions in administration and governance system, he was appointed on the 15th November, 2007 as the Lead Panel and Key Discussant for Political Stability and Good Governance by the Ministry of Information Malaysia. On the 24th of September, 2008, he was appointed and supported with Malaysian Federal Research Grants to Lead the Quality Assessment of Governance of Local Government Authorities in Malaysia under the purview of University Technology Mara, (UiTM). On the 21st May 2008, he was appointed as the lead Panel for Research Report Presentation by University Technology Mara Shah Alam Selangor, Malaysia. He was given Special Recognition Award on 14th March, 2008 based on Contribution to Malaysia Diplomatic Engagement and Administration in Meeting Expectations of the National Vision.
On the 6th of February, 2009, he was appointed as Lead research work on Team Building and Empowering a High Performance System. He was also appointed on 1st of April, 2009 as the Lead Panel on Index Citation and Impact Factor Workshop by University Technology Mara Shah Alam Malaysia.
In recognition of his expertise in policy and governance, he was appointed on the 29th January 2010 to provide Instructional Textbook on Public Management by University Technology Mara. Prof Ambali was also appointed as the Lead Panel of Workshop on Leveraging Creativity in Online Teaching and KIT Delivery by University Technology Mara Shah Alam Selangor. On 11th of April, 2010, he was appointed as the Content Editor of Public Policy and Social Science Proceedings by Faculty of Administrative Science, Kedah, Malaysia.
In the same year and precisely 12th October, 2011, Prof Ambali was appointed as Lead Discussant on Scarce Resource Sustainability Policy in Malaysia by Department of Science and Technology, Faculty of Science, University Malaya. He was appointed as member of policy research on natural resources governance scholars in protection of Taman Negera UiTM Johor (PTNJ) on the 13th October, 2011. On the 31st Oct, 2011, he was appointed to Lead Panel for the 2nd International Public Policies and Social Sciences in Kuchin Sarawak Malaysia.
In recognition of his expertise in policy administration and governance, he was appointed as the Lead Research Scholar and a Fellow at Center for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development on 7th of November, 2011. In the same year, on the 8th of June 2011, he was also appointed as Lead Expert on Policy Reform and Governance on the Impact on Malaysian Public Service Delivery and supported with Federal Research Grant Science Fund worthy of millions of Naira equivalent. Still on his intellectual contribution, he was appointed as Resource Leading Person on THREE (3) Instructional Materials adopted as Courseware on Research Methodology and Data Analysis, Ethics of Administration and Applied Research Project respectively 20th of December, 2011 by the Authority of University Technology Mara, Malaysia. On the 29th of July, 2011, his Led Research Team won another Federal Research Grants Science Fund worthy of N50, 000, 000.00 naira equivalent.
The intellectual record and recognition has earned Prof Ambali Research Team a sum of 20,000, 000.00 Naira equivalent on 1st March 2012, awarded by the Malaysian Government. Prof Ambali was appointed on the 1st of December 2012 as the Lead in Modelling of New Road Map to National Sentiment and Nation Building through Policy Framework for Malaysian Government by University Technology Mara (UiTM), and supported by Federal Government Research Grants (FRGS). It was in special recognition of these works that Prof Ambali became Life Member of Malaysian Social Science Association on 29th April, 2012. Furthermore, on his academic and intellectual ground of resource management he was appointed as the Resource Person for Environmental Management in Developing Countries by Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies, UiTM Malaysia. In the same year 2012, he was appointed as the Lead Panel for Enhancing Postgraduate Supervision and Research Evaluation by University Technology Mara, Malaysia. On the 15th of December, 2012, he was appointed as the Lead Panel for Review of Public Policy in Malaysia through University Technology Mara, Malaysia.
On the 13th June, 2013, he was appointed as Lead Workshop on Writing and Publishing For Index Journal by University Technology Mara Malaysia in recognition of his expertise and as one of the Winners of SCOPUS and ISI Award of 2011 Annual Academic Conference. Based on such achievement he was appointed as Editorial Advisory Board for Journal of Administrative Science (JAS) on the 31st of December, 2013. Prof Ambali was also appointed on the December 2013 as the Lead Consultant of Running Parking Charge by Petaling Jaya Council, Selangor Malaysia as the Key IGR for the Government.
Prof AmbaliI was also honoured and appointed on the 6th of December, 2013 by Federal Research Grant Science Fund (FRGS) Malaysia to Lead as Principal Investigator Support Initiative on Theorizing the Socio-Political Effects of National Sentiment and Nation Building among Races in Malaysia. In recognition of that Research Output, he was appointed as Fellow at the Center for Strategic Planning and Information, UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia. On the 20th of June, 2013 his Research Team secured Long Research Grant (LRGS) worthy of N108, 000, 000.00 naira equivalent for Enhancing Productivity and Sustainability of Palm Oil Milling Industry in Malaysia.
Prof Ambali was given a Recognition Award on 3rd March, 2014 by the Editor-In-Chief of Humanities and Social Sciences over significant contribution of manuscript titled “Towards an Entrepreneurial Model of University in Managing Intellectual Property and Its Commercialization”. On the 21st March, 2014, he was appointed as the Facilitator for Academic Writing Workshop on Publication in High Impact Journals by University Technology Mara with the aim of encouraging growth and enhancement of the academic writing culture among researchers and students in the University. He was appointed as the Lead Speaker on Research Advanced Workshops 7th Series focusing on Pattern of Findings and Discussions leading to Effective Conclusion by the Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies Shah Alam Malaysia on the 16 April, 2014.
Based on his expertise on governance system, he was invited and appointed by Springer as one of the leading publishing outlets in SCOPUS and ISI, to contribute many chapters on Socioeconomic and Political Implications of Ethnic Inclination on Nation-Building.
Upon the resumption of Prof Ambali to Kwara State University, Malete (KWASU) in 2014, he developed Postgraduate Curriculum for PG programs in Political Science and Public Administration. On the 2nd January, he was appointed as HOD for Politics and Governance. Based on his expertise, he was appointed as Director, Academic Planning Unit of the University. He was appointed as Chairman and members of several Committees by KWASU, such as Examination, Accreditation, Admission, Senate Business Committee, Budget, Curriculum Review, Monitoring, Library and Publications Committee, member of University Research Council, etc. He was appointed on the 29th November, 2017 till date as Consulting Editor for International Journal of Politics, Babangida University. He was appointed as External Examiners to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs for many Universities in Nigeria such as Al-Hikmah University, University of Ilorin, Osun State University, Ekiti State University, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, and Federal University Dutse.
On the basis of his intellectual achievements and expertise, Prof Ambali was appointed by many universities both locally and internationally as an Assessor of many staff on promotions to the rank of Professors and Associate Professors. Some of these universities include: University of Ilorin; Osun State University; Federal University, Dutse, Ibrahim Babagida University, Lapai, University Teknologi Mara, Malaysia, etc.
Based on his intellectual contribution, he was also appointed as External Assessor of Professorial Promotion of many Universities in Nigeria. He was appointed on the 9th December, 2017, as Fellow to the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria. He was appointed on the 27th October, 2020 as the Lead Facilitator for Training on the Legacy of Diplomacy Approach in Management and Good Governance by the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy, Nigeria. In recognition of his expertise, he was appointed as Panel Member on the 24th February, 2021 by the Kwara State Government to address the Leadership Tussle in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
In recognition of his contributions to the working class, Prof Ambali, was awarded with Gold Medal by Labour Union, Kwara State Chapter on the 1st May, 2021. Prof Ambali, internationally has just been appointed by National Security Council in the Prime Minister (President) Office Malaysia, as one of the Experts for Validation of Indicators of the National Security Index, in collaboration with University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) between the year2022- 2025 respectively.
Finally, Prof Ambali’s intellectual contributions to knowledge in society have been cited severally in local and international reputable journals by other scholars and has generated 1227 number of citations; h-index of 11 and i-index of 12 as at the time of this post.
