Tension As 2 Herders Killed In FCT

Two herders were reportedly killed in what appeared to be a reprisal attack at a Fulani settlement at Kpache village in Yaba chiefdom of Abaji Area Council of the FCT.

City & Crime had reported that a clash broke out between some vigilantes and herders at Yaba market on Saturday afternoon which led to the alleged killing of one vigilante member, said to be from the Bassa tribe of the area.

A resident of Yaba, Saidu Shuaibu, who confirmed the latest killing of the two herders at their settlement in Kpache village, to our reporter on Wednesday, said the incident happened around 11pm.

He said the assailants attacked the herders’ camp and shot and killed two of the herders, thereby creating serious tension across the chiefdom.

“And this happened despite the chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, in the company of security men, visited Yaba on Sunday, to plead for calm. Yet some assailants still went ahead to kill 2 herders,” he said.

A police source at Yaba division who preferred anonymity, also confirmed the killing of two herders at their camp in Kpache village on Tuesday night.

“In fact, the chairman of Abaji Area Council came to Yaba to ensure that there is peace, yet some assailants still went and attacked a Fulani settlement and killed two herders,” he said.

He said the police visited the scene on Wednesday morning in order to obtain details of the incident, before forwarding a report to the FCT police command on the attack.

The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Adeh Josephine, was yet to reply to a text message sent to her phone on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
