Kwara Hotel Remodelling: Don't Subject Tax Payers To Unnecessary Financial Burden, Crystal Group Reacts
Crystal Group, a company owned by APC Stalwart, Mashood Mustapha, has urged the Kwara state government to prioritize indigenous contractors in the award of the Kwara Hotel remodelling contract.
Crystal Group said this while turning down the offer of the Kwara State Government to take over the renovation of Kwara Hotels from Craneburg Construction Company for the sum of N3 billion.
The company also urged the state government to review the contract sum from N17.8 billion and channel the remaining balance towards other productive ventures that will benefit the state.
The company pointed out that Craneburg Construction company has already commenced work on Kwara Hotel. Therefore, the government's offer for the company to come and renovate the hotel for N3 billion, was not made in good faith. It questioned why the government will make an Offer in respect of works that is already being executed by another Contractor?
Based on the foregoing, the company declined the offer and said the issue can only be resolved if the Kwara State Government accept the following propositions:
1) That it be paid all damages claimed in the Suit pending before the Kwara State High.
2) That the Kwara State Government commits to expending not more than N5Billion in revamping and remodeling Kwara Hotels.
3) That the Kwara State Government re-advertise the bid and give priority to appointing a competent company owned by a Kwara State indigene to execute the Contract. Crystal Group of Companies Limited will not participate in the re-advertised bid.
Mashood Mustapha's Crystal Group pointed out that it's main grouse is the Government’s plan to expend the sum of N17.8 Billion on revamping Kwara Hotels despite its meagre resources. The concern is that the resources of Government should be judiciously managed and not to subject Kwara State Tax payers to unnecessary financial burden at this difficult time.
