Kwara Assembly Okays N509.8bn Supplementary Budget


A total sum of N509,889,985,435.90 has been approved on the floor of the Kwara State House of Assembly as 2024 supplementary appropriation bill for the state.

The approved sum caused an increase in the state fiscal year with N217,148,693,3.00 as against N292,741,292,132,30 that was initially proposed.

In a letter transmitted to the House,
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had requested the lawmakers to consider and approve the supplementary appropriation bill, (2024) in view of the current economic reality.

At the plenary on Thursday, the supplementary appropriation was considered and approved at the Committee of Supply of the House.

The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Arinola Fatima Lawal, who laid the report of her committee on the supplementary appropriation, explained
that the approved sum would be used for capital projects and completion of ongoing and new infrastructural projects across the state.

The female lawmaker, who represents Ilorin East Constituency, however, urged her colleagues to support passage of the supplementary appropriation for the development of the state.

The Speaker, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, announced the passage of the supplementary appropriation after majority of the lawmakers threw their weight behind it through a voice vote.

The speaker directed the Clerk to the House, Mr Ahmed Olayiwola Kareem, to read the bill the third time after which it scaled through final passage.

He also directed the clerk to produce a clean copy of the supplementary budget for Governor’s assent.

Meanwhile, the House Leader, Barrister Abdulkadir Oba Magaji, laid the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the Auditor-General on the financial Statements and Accounts of the Kwara State government for year ending 31st December, (2023).

Also, the lawmaker presented 2023 Audit Report of the Auditor-General for Local Government on the Operations of Local Governments in Kwara State for the Year ending December 31st, 2023.
