Kwara Spends N922Million On Presidential Lodge, Guest Chalets, Neglects Water Facilities

Kwara State's budget performance document reveals that between January and September 2024, N922 million was spent on the presidential lodge and guest chalets.

Initially, the state had allocated N1 billion for this purpose in the 2024 fiscal year. This expenditure is part of the state's total budget of N292.741 billion for the 2024 fiscal year, which was approved by the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Despite allocating N700 million for water facility repairs and rehabilitation, the state spent nothing between January and September 2024.

On the other hand, hospital and health center repairs received N479 million during the same period.

This raises questions about the state's prioritization and efficiency in utilizing allocated funds.

Meanwhile, construction/provision of water facilities only took N108 million. The state spent N490 million on the purchase of health/medical equipment.

The capital expenditure incurred by the ministry of water resources stood at N711 million, N204 million for the ministry of energy, N293.5 million for the ministry of communication, all between January and September 2024.

The recent expenditure on the presidential lodge and guest chalet in Kwara state raises eyebrows, especially considering that 75% of households lack access to sanitary facilities and 42% don't have clean drinking water.

This is a stark reminder of the pressing needs of poor communities, which seem to be overshadowed by luxury spending.
