The body of a 52-year-old man, identified as Alaba Ayeni, has been recovered from a well in the Asa Dam area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Men of the Kwara State Fire Service carried out the recovery operation on Tuesday after some children reportedly discovered the body and alerted elders in the area.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said the location of the well was reportedly close to the residence of the deceased.
“The location was also said to be close to the residence of the deceased,” Adekunle said.
He added that the body was recovered from the well and subsequently handed over to the police.
“After the recovery, the body was handed to the police,” he said.
Fire Service Warns Residents
Adekunle urged residents to properly cover wells and other open water sources around residential areas to prevent accidents and loss of lives.
He also advised parents, guardians and community leaders to ensure that children do not move around unattended near wells, drainage channels and other potentially dangerous areas.
The circumstances surrounding Ayeni’s death were not immediately disclosed.
