A security commander, identified as Agbeniga Taye, has reportedly been killed by suspected bandits while attempting to defend residents of Idofin-Ayekale in Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attackers also reportedly kidnapped two residents during the incident, according to a source who spoke to Kwara Reporters.

The source said the attack occurred on Thursday evening, adding that Taye was killed while confronting the attackers and attempting to protect members of the community.

“He was killed while trying to defend the community from the attackers,” the source said.

A video obtained by this medium shows the body of the slain security commander being carried by two individuals, apparently after the attack.

The incident comes amid persistent concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara South, where communities have recorded attacks and kidnapping incidents in recent years.

Residents in affected areas have repeatedly raised concerns about the activities of suspected bandits and kidnappers, amid fears that continued attacks could further threaten the safety of rural communities.

The reported killing of Taye has also renewed concerns about the risks faced by local security personnel and community members involved in efforts to protect residents from armed attacks.
