According to Zagazola Makama, a security-focused publication, troops of the 22 Brigade stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Kaiama responded to intelligence reports about the planned attack.
The troops, working alongside local vigilantes, reportedly engaged the attackers, disrupted their advance and forced them to retreat.
One of the suspected terrorists was killed during the confrontation, while others fled the scene.
The latest incident adds to the growing security concerns in Kaiama, one of the areas in northern Kwara State facing persistent threats from suspected terrorists and armed groups.
Previous Terrorist Attacks in Kaiama
On February 3, suspected terrorists attacked Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, killing at least 75 residents and setting several houses ablaze.
About 150 people, mostly women and children, were also abducted during the attack.
The victims were reportedly released in August after spending six months in captivity.
The deadly assault attracted widespread condemnation and prompted President Bola Tinubu to approve the deployment of an army battalion to the area under Operation Savannah Shield.
On April 20, suspected terrorists attacked another community in Kaiama, killing three soldiers.
The attackers reportedly attempted to overrun a military facility but were repelled by troops.
Barely two weeks later, on May 2, gunmen attacked a police mobile force camp in Tenebo, Kaiama Local Government Area, killing three police officers and injuring several others.
Troops Intensify Security Operations
Following the latest attack on Nanu community, troops are expected to sustain security operations in the area to prevent further assaults and track down the fleeing suspects.
The latest confrontation underscores the persistent security challenges facing communities in Kaiama and the need for sustained military operations to protect residents.
