The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 33-year-old man, Moshood Banke, in the Basin area of Ilorin, Kwara State, over the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl.
The arrest was disclosed on Thursday by Shola Ayoola, spokesperson for the NSCDC Kwara State Command.
According to Ayoola, the suspect was arrested on November 1, 2026, following a complaint by the victim’s family over an incident allegedly involving the minor on October 17, 2026.
“The suspect was arrested on the 1st of November 2026 following a report by the victim’s family concerning an incident alleged to have occurred on the 17th of October 2026,” he said.
Suspect Allegedly Took Minor Into Uncompleted Building
Ayoola explained that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly accosted the girl while she was returning from an errand and forcibly took her into an uncompleted building within the neighbourhood.
The NSCDC spokesperson said the alleged sexual assault occurred inside the building.
He further disclosed that the suspect was familiar with the victim’s family and regularly patronised her mother’s food vending business.
“Further findings revealed that the suspect was familiar with the victim’s family and regularly patronised her mother’s food vending business,” Ayoola said.
According to him, the suspect reportedly fled the area after the alleged incident but was subsequently sighted by the victim on November 1, 2026.
He was then apprehended by NSCDC operatives.
Medical Examination Reveals History of Sexual Abuse
The NSCDC spokesperson added that a medical examination conducted on the victim indicated a history of sexual abuse.
The findings have reportedly provided additional evidence relevant to the ongoing investigation.
The arrest comes amid renewed concerns over the protection of minors and the need for stronger measures to prevent sexual violence against children.
The NSCDC has yet to disclose further details regarding the suspect’s prosecution.
