The Kwara State Police Command has recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 42 rounds of live ammunition from a commercial vehicle along the Alapa–Okolowo axis of Ilorin, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect and the discovery of an alleged gun-running network.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this while providing details of the operation.
According to her, police operatives intercepted the weapons during a stop-and-search operation after discovering a bag containing the firearms and ammunition inside the commercial vehicle.

A 30-year-old suspect, identified as Umaru M., was arrested in connection with the discovery.
Ejire-Adeyemi said the suspect initially denied ownership of the bag but later admitted during interrogation that he was conveying the weapons.
She said the suspect’s statement provided investigators with a major breakthrough, as he allegedly linked the recovered firearms to another suspected member of the network identified as Dan Yarubawa.
The police spokesperson further alleged that Yarubawa handed the weapons to Umaru for onward delivery to another individual identified as Dahiru, who was reportedly based outside Kwara State.
She said efforts had been intensified to arrest the other suspects and unravel the full extent of the alleged gun-running network.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, reassured residents that the Command would sustain proactive and intelligence-led operations aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police to assist ongoing investigations and prevent criminal activities.
