The Onigbesi of Igbesi Land, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, has died days after regaining his freedom from abductors in Kwara State.
The traditional ruler was abducted on August 22, 2026, when armed men reportedly invaded Igbesi community in Isin Local Government Area of the state.
He was later rescued five days after his abduction during a security operation along the Elerin–Ijomu-Oro axis, according to sources familiar with the incident.
However, family sources said the monarch fell ill shortly after his release and was subsequently admitted to a hospital.
He reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not been officially disclosed, and there was no immediate statement from the state government or security authorities linking his death to the abduction.
The death of the traditional ruler has reportedly thrown the Igbesi community into mourning, coming only days after his release from captivity.
Further details about his burial arrangements and the circumstances surrounding his death are expected from the family and relevant authorities.
