The Kwara State Police Command has debunked reports that its officers shot a motorcyclist during an incident at Oyun Bridge in Ilorin, the state capital.

The Command said no one was shot during the incident, which occurred during a routine patrol and stop-and-search operation in the Oyun Bridge area.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command said a video circulating on social media had been accompanied by claims that a motorcyclist was shot by police officers.

The Command said the impact left Corporal Azeez with serious head injuries and a fracture, while Lukman sustained minor injuries.

Other police officers at the scene reportedly intervened and took both the injured officer and the motorcyclist to a medical facility for treatment.

The police said Lukman was treated and discharged but remains in police custody to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Corporal Azeez, however, remains under medical care and is expected to undergo further medical examinations and scans to determine the full extent of his head injuries.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, urged members of the public to exercise caution when sharing information on social media.

The Command also appealed to residents to verify information before circulating it, saying this would help prevent unnecessary anxiety and misunderstanding.

The police acknowledged concerns surrounding police activities but reiterated the need for accurate information when reporting incidents involving law enforcement officers.
